A italian tourist died this friday after being attacked by a shark in the Colombian archipelago of Saint Andrewat sea Caribbean. According to local media, the man was surrounded by several of these animals when he bathed in a rocky area of cliffs known as “La Piscinita”. It was in this context that one bit his right leg at the thigh, causing a fatal injury.
“The sharks did not give him a chance to swim, he tried to scare them away with his handbut every time he did this they bit him,” a witness told the local channel TeleIslasalthough without clarifying the number of animals that were in the water or providing further details about the circumstances in which the attack occurred.
Already seriously injuredthe 56-year-old man, identified as Anthony, was helped by several people to get out of the sea. Next, they transferred him to the Departmental Hospital of San Andrés, where he arrived unconscious; the doctors were unable to revive him. “Apparently he had a loss of blood volume in the area where he had the accident”said to Radius SnailErika PalaciosScientific Deputy Manager of the health center.
The tragic incident instilled terror in tourists who enjoyed the beaches of San Andrés. To this was added the dissemination on social networks of images and videos that gave an account of the presence of at least two sharks in Caribbean waters.
Facing this scenario, the authorities indicated that this type of attack is infrequent in the area. However, those who live in the place assure that it is not the first time that it happens an event of these characteristics and urged the Government to carry out actions to prevent it from happening again.
