Young boy survives shark attack while on vacation
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A vacation to the Sunshine State left a painful reminder for a 6-year-old after a shark attack.
Six-year-old Logan Hamby can smile proudly weeks after surviving a shark attack along the Miami Beach coast. "First a fin rode over Logan, and I looked around, and we took off, and I thought it was jellyfish," Logan's father, Ken Hamby, said.
The Hamby's were in the water during their family vacation when a shark got a hold of Logan. He was about knee deep in the water when his parents tried to save him from the shark when two Good Samaritans came to their rescue. "I was reaching, I was thinking use your arm for a crowbar," Logan's mother, Donna Hamby said. "I didn't have anything because it was hanging from his little leg and he's so small, and a guy came in, and he saw me reaching, and he pushed me and started hitting it."
Logan was taken to the hospital and treated for five deep puncture wounds. The family said they are grateful it wasn't any worse.
The two Samaritans, Warren Wilson of Orlando and Dr. Antonio Ruiz of Mexico, were strangers to the family when they risked their own lives to help save the boy's life. "The two guys punching it around the snout," Donna said. "They were wonderful."
"It finally let go right there on the shoreline," Ken said.
The Good Samaritans actions will always have them linked to Logan Hamby.
