TWO shark sightings and an attack on a fisherman's boat have prompted renewed warnings for water users to beware of the deadly predators.
A man in a dinghy was attacked by a shark today while fishing about 1km from shore near North Haven.
The fisherman phoned police about 3.45pm after a bronze whaler circled his dinghy and bit into the hull and motor.
The boat sustained only minor damage and the man returned to shore.
He was not injured and neither police nor the coast guard were called to assist.
About noon, a shark of similar description was spotted about 2km from shore near Glenelg.
Water police said shark sightings were common in deep water, and they only posed a significant risk to humans when 1km or closer to shore.
Meanwhile, a 4.5m Great White has been spotted in waters near Streaky Bay.
Police have warned swimmers to beware of the animal, which has been in the area for about three weeks.
Sightings traditionally increase between November and Christmas compared as sharks follow schools of fish up Gulf St Vincent.
