Exmouth shark attack: Woman escapes alive after being bitten by predator in WA’s north

A swimmer has miraculously escaped serious injury after being bitten by a shark in WA’s north.

The woman was attacked about 30 metres from shore at Oyster Stacks near Exmouth about 12.15pm on Wednesday.

It is understood the woman did not require medical treatment but alerted Fisheries to the incident on Thursday afternoon.

Shocked onlookers said they saw a fin emerge from the water around the time the woman was attacked.

The size and species of the predator responsible for biting the woman is yet to be determined.

“A female swimmer was involved in a minor incident with an unknown species of shark, which occurred at approximately 12.15pm on Wednesday,” a Fisheries spokesman said.

“The incident has been confirmed by the Department ofany leads on an id @kell Primary Industries and Regional Development.”

Fisheries have since issued a shark warning for the popular Oyster Stack area.

Swimmers are being urged to remain vigilant.“Take additional caution in the Oyster Stacks area,” the shark warning reads.

“Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA.

“Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.”
