A woman has sustained leg injuries following a suspected shark attack on Hyams Beach, Jervis Bay around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The 42-year-old is reportedly in a stable condition with the tears on her lower thigh in accordance with a shark bite that was treated at Shoalhaven Hospital. South Coast Police District Commander Superintendent Greg Moore said the woman is expected to be discharged from Shoalhaven Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. “She was supported in getting to the hospital,” Superintendent Moore said. “The damage is minor, she is in a stable condition.” READ MORE: He added that police attended the scene and have contacted authorities to make sure the beach is safe. “Police have responded to the scene and been in contact with the rescue helicopter, which has conducted an investigation of the area,” he said. “There is no need for alarm, but we make sure to check with all the local authorities to make sure that the beach remains a safe place to swim.” Superintendent Moore could not confirm details about the species of shark, or whether the woman is local.
