Shark INCIDENT for Beach South of Dampier Boat Ramp in Dampier

All Beaches within the vicinity of Dampier Boat Ramp have now been reopened by the City of Karratha.

There have been no further reported shark sightings.

Switch on your Sea Sense and stay informed of shark activity information by checking the SharkSmart website, download the SharkSmart WA app or follow Surf Life Saving WA Twitter.

If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.

Update on 20th April 2021 at 9:23am

The City of Karratha have closed beaches at Dampier Boat Ramp along with beaches adjacent to the boat ramp for the remainder of today.

Rangers from the City of Karratha and Fisheries Officers from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development will continue to conduct patrols throughout the day.

Alert issued on 19th April 2021 at 5pm.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are currently involved in assisting with a shark incident near the beach south of Dampier Boat Ramp in the City of Karratha.

Situation:

A man has received injuries after being bitten by an unknown species of shark at approximately 3:40pm this afternoon.

What to do:

Take additional caution in the Dampier area.
Adhere to beach closures advised by Local Government Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA.
Use your Sea Sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to land managers and relevant authorities and to the public on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.

What authorities are doing:

DPIRD is working with local authorities to coordinate responses.
