July 23, 2013 Update:
The young victim ( Bruna Silva Gobbi, 18) died late on monday at the hospital, due to blood loss and cardiac arrest.
Lord have mercy on her, that poor girl, such a terrible injury. She needed more help asap, not to be carried for precious minutes up to the road.
My goodness how horrible, and yes that poor girl needed immediate emergency help,by this video,it is clearly evident that people had zero idea as to what to do for her.She should have stayed on the beach, lying flat, with a tourniquet applied to her injured leg…until competent medical help arrived.I don’t understand why she was carried to another area, and sat up.Not even the lifeguard/medical help acted in the slight of urgency, because not one single person was trained as to what to do in such an emergency as you can tell. What a tragedy…sorry but I wouldn’t even want to get a hangnail in Recife,Brazil….they wouldn’t have a clue what to do…God rest that beautiful young ladies soul.
This video should be used for training purposes, of what not to do with a shark attack victim!!!!! A tourniquet should have been applied immediatley, Im still trying to understand what the lifeguards were doing????? On the jet ski he floundered around, on the beach?? Im still tring to understand what they were doing again, Do they have no training at all?? especially on such a notorious beach for shark attacks like Recife????? This poor girl should have, and would have lived if she received proper medical attention..
It is indeed tragic, the lifeguards when holding her were asking for a towel or something that could be used as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, also someone on a brazilian website that witness the attack also were told that she had been warned about the possibility of shark attack on those beaches, she swam at her own risk. I went to those beaches before and after these multiple shark attacks when i was there in 1994 it was ok to swim, after 96 the attacks suddently started, mainly attributed to the fact that slaughterhouses dumped animal carcasses and blood on the river and started atracting the sharks more to the shore and eventually the beaches.
