On December 25, 2012 Liya Sibili, of Gauteng, was attacked and killed by a shark while swimming at the notorious Second Beach, Port St. Johns.
Billed as the most dangerous beach in the world after seven fatal attacks in as many years.
Did Marcella visit Second Beach on December 25 and could Marcella have come across Liya Sibili?
Marcella was travelling South West of Port Saint John’s on Dec 24 2012 6.16pm and was North East of Port Saint John’s on Dec 26 2012 6.51am.

Interesting indeed. Most of the attacks in Port St. Johns are attributed to Bull Sharks, although the White Shark has also been suspected in those particular gruesome attacks where the body of the victim was never recovered. If I’m not mistaken, they never found the remains this last victim.
This area it’s a hot spot for fatal shark attacks, Great Whites, & Bulls alike, however, the latter more so in bays where the rivers meet the ocean or even more inland.
I respect what is being done to educate people about sharks, as I’ve been fascinated since I was a child just as any other person here, & I believe it’s important what Ocearch is doing.
I’m not sure it’s very respectful or in good taste that this is posted here so soon after this poor girls death, especially on a holiday of celebration, her family, & other loved ones now think of Christmas as a day they lost their loved one very suddenly, & tragically. It may or may not have been this shark and we’ll never know, that being said we shouldn’t speak of it or post it here. I apologize, I don’t mean to be rude to anyone, just as a Mother, I wouldn’t want my child being discussed on a site such as this.
Best wishes to all!
This area is the worlds hot spot for shark attack fatalities by great White’s or Bull Shark’s alike, the latter being known to attack more so at the bay or more inland in rivers.
I greatly respect what Ocearch is doing for these amazing creatures, & like others that visit the site, & follow the sharks am very excited as I’ve been obsessed with them since I was a kid, ALWAYS reading about them, at that time it wasn’t so cool, & probably know more than I should.
With that being said, I certainly don’t mean to criticize, however, given how recent this has happened, & being a Mother, I don’t believe it’s in good taste to post this on here as it’s nearly impossible to say that this shark is the culprit. I sincerely don’t mean to offend anyone, & think it’s wonderful that Ocearch has attracted so many who are supportive, & proactive in finding ways to gain more information regarding these lovely creatures, their lives, habits, migrations, etc. so that there may be ways to understand them, & seek conservation over killing.
Best wishes to all!
